A brand new learn and play experience is coming to Deakin.

Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS) recently introduced Little Cygnets, a focused playgroup for children aged 1 to 3 years in the local area, designed to foster a love of learning through fun, accessible and purposeful play.

This FREE playgroup is designed by the School's early learning specialists and offers young families a unique insight into the inquiry-based teaching and learning method for which CGGS is renowned.

"Often when I speak with families they are seeking an environment for their child that is appropriate for their developing minds -they feel that traditional playgroups and day-cares don’t inspire a sense of creativity, imagination or problem-solving," says Peter McDonald, Deputy Principal, Head of Junior School and ELC at CGGS. "Our new Little Cygnets playgroup includes activities that introduce play-based literacy, numeracy and inquiry experiences, while maintaining a fun and inclusive space where they can create and explore."

Held in the contemporary Kamberri space of the School’s Early Learning Centre (ELC), Little Cygnets will host arts and crafts, reading, writing, drawing, exploration, play, music and language-based activities - to name a few. The authenticity of the playgroup ensures both children and parents will find a sociable, welcoming space while they learn how to learn.

"Little Cygnets is more than a playgroup. Our aim is to support you and your child’s journey into education by introducing them to essential teaching and learning methods that will stay with them for life," says Michele O’Sullivan, the Director of Early Years and one of Little Cygnets' learning specialists. "Everyone is welcome -we want to ensure families in our community have access to a high-quality start to their learning, while engaging in a fun experience that both child and parent will always cherish. It’s important for parents to also find their place and their people."

Little Cygnets' will start with four sessions in 2024; Tuesday 17 September, Tuesday 15 October, Tuesday 5 November and Tuesday 26 November from 10-10.45am.
