On December 12, 2025, the National Opera is putting on Engelbert Humperdincks Hansel and Gretel at Albert Hall in Canberra. Its that classic tale of two kids lost in the woods, stumbling into a witches gingerbread pad, all sung out in a full opera with tunes that have stuck around longer than most bad habits.

Families might enjoy the visuals and performances, which bring the story to life without anyone actually getting baked into a pie, thankfully. The score is the kind that sneaks into your head and hums along for days, perfect for a night out if youre up for some fairy tale drama minus the real peril.
