Do I need to attend?

Hi, Im after some advice please.

My Father-in-law/ My Childrens Grandpa has an upcoming big birthday celebration that we have been invited to attend.
My problem is that both my children and Us are never acknowledged by him! Forgotten/missed Birthdays, no visits or efforts made and we literally live minutes away from one another, but the other Grandchildren and Children he has are very well acknowledged and efforts made. So I dont feel it necessary to Celebrate or Acknowledge someone who doesn't Acknowledge their own Grandchildren or Us and make no efforts to. It makes us sad but we've accepted that this is the way it is, but I am now feeling guilty about not wanting to attend. Am I wrong to feel this way about not wanting to attend? Am I being selfish? What decision would you make?
